Construction is usually discussed as a dust problem. That framing is incomplete and, for the people who manage sites and live beside them, misleading. A construction site is a multi-pollutant source: alongside the visible dust it emits respirable crystalline silica, a spectrum of combustion gases, diesel particulate, and volatile organic compounds. Each behaves differently, poses distinct health risks, is regulated differently, and requires different control strategies.
