The Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APSPCB) is a governmental body of the Indian State, of Arunachal Pradesh, established in the year 1993. Its main function is to oversee the programmes for prevention, control and abatement of air pollution in the state. It also acts as an advisory body to the State Government on any matter concerning the prevention of pollution levels. Arunachal Pradesh is home to 1.7 million people (Projected population of 2021) and various flora and fauna. It hosts a number of industries which are subjugated to scrutiny by the Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board.

The Challenge

The APSPCB wanted to keep track of the air quality in two places, Namsai and Kharsang. To fulfil such a requirement, it was necessary for these two cities in Arunachal Pradesh to have an Air Quality Monitoring System. They also wanted to display the acquired data on an LED display for the public to view. They were looking for an Air Quality Monitoring system that could detect the various Ambient Air pollutants and be capable of sending data to a third party displaying device. The APSPCB needed a compact, robust and accurate Air Quality Monitoring system that could detect the parameter levels of PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO, NO2, O3, CO, CO2, noise, UV, light, temperature, humidity and the air pressure in these two areas. Additionally, it was important that such a system was independent in its energy requirements and a data back option if a network shut-down occurs.

The Solution

Oizom with Volta Engineering Solutions offered Polludrone Smart to the APSPCB for real-time monitoring of the various parameters of Air pollution as mentioned previously. Polludrone comes equipped with a robust body composition capable of enduring harsh weather conditions. It is also compatible with Solar power. Oizom’s patented ‘e-breathing’ technology enables the sensors for gathering accurate data on the various parameter levels. The data collected by the monitor can be transferred via GSM and other various modes to the APSPCB. Furthermore, Polludrone comes equipped with the Data-Analysing & Visualization software that makes it easier for the authorities to get historical data on the various levels of air pollutants and can investigate accordingly for the causes.

The Result

The APSPCB is now capable of monitoring the various parameter levels of air pollution on a real-time basis in both the cities of Arunachal Pradesh. The Data Analytics and Visualisation software have made it easier for them to understand the historical trends of the various air pollutants. The data accumulated by Polludrone is currently being projected in the LED display to assure the citizens of safe breathing air. Additionally, the authorities are now empowered to adopt appropriate measures that best suit the needs of the citizens and the environment.
