Odour Monitoring System
Odosense
Odosense is an e-nose based odour monitoring system designed to monitor various odourful and toxic gases. Odosense continuously detects, measures, and monitors the odourful gaseous contaminants. Oizom Odour Monitoring device comprises a network of e-noses (OdosenseTM) positioned on the periphery of the site. One can also monitor meteorological parameters like wind speed, wind direction by using external modules. The weather modules enable us to trace the odorant dispersion plume and identify odour source.
Real time odour monitoring around landfill sites, wastewater treatment facilities, fertilisers, paper-pulp industries, and soil-treatment sites, etc. is very crucial as they usually create odour nuisance and could be a health hazard for the employees and residents living in the surrounding areas. Hence, odour monitoring equipment can act as an alarm system in cases of accidental releases of pollutants; through odour plume dispersion we can also backtrack the source of the odour. So, it is essential to keep a track of odour intensity to take suggestive actions like planning odour mitigation activities. Additionally, in the case of false complaints, the authorities have the data for reference purposes.
Odosense measures odourful parameters such as Sulphur Dioxide (SO2), Hydrogen sulphide (H2S), Ammonia (NH3), Methyl Mercaptan, TVOC (Benzene, Toluene, Xylene), Formaldehyde (CH2O), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Chlorine (CL2), Temperature and Humidity.
The Odosense technologically provides better accuracy with features including unique e-breathing technology, auto device firmware upgrades, and remote calibration capabilities. Our systems also use AI and ML algorithms to understand smell levels and impact.
Odosense, our accurate real-time odour monitoring device can transmit data through various data communication modules like GSM, WiFi, LORA, etc. Simultaneously, the data is transferable to the Oizom cloud in near real-time. Additionally, it has an inbuilt memory backup to ensure no data loss in case of network failure. This ensures the best device uptime. Users can visualise the collected data on the Oizom IoT Terminal in the form of real-time dashboards. Users can also generate odour plumes and odour dispersion heatmaps upon a dense network of data points and weather data integration. Hence, by integrating data from the Odosense onto 3rd party odour modelling platforms we can enable advanced analytics on the odour levels. The odour data can also be useful for various industrial automation applications in an Industrial IoT (IIoT) environment.

Our sensing technology works on proven working principles such as NDIR, PID, Electrochemical Analysis, Semiconductor, Optical Measurement. As a part of our proprietary ‘Micro Active Sampling’ (e-breathing technology), we also have a sophisticated suction-and-exhaust system for air sample collection and monitoring inside a controlled environment. This isolates the effect of the external environment on measurement to achieve 13% higher accuracy than the industry standards.
Electrochemical Analysis – The gaseous emission is treated electrochemically, where an external potential is applied. Thus, each species like CO2, H2S, CH4, etc. is identifiable depending on their oxidation or reduction potential.
NDIR – The gases emitted from the location undergo Nondispersive Infrared Radiation where the sample air is subjected to infrared radiation. Different gaseous molecules absorb IR at different frequencies. Hence, the amount of IR absorbed gives the volumetric concentration of each gaseous constituent.
PID – Photoionization detection method helps quantify TVOCs present in the sample. Highly energized UV photons bombard the molecules, which ionize and make them positively charged. These ionized molecules, in return, produce an electric current which gives a volumetric concentration of the molecules. So, the higher the current generated, the higher is the gaseous concentration in the sample.
Odour Data Monitored by Odosense is accessible using the Odour monitoring Software Odour monitoring Software. The platform has essential features like…
- Odour Data Overview
- Micro-analysis Dashboard
- Historical Data Analytics
- Odour Report
- Smart Alerts
- Historical Data-set Download
Odour Data is also accessible using secured HTTP/MQTT APIs. Using the APIS, the data can be published on Public Display, Smart TVs, Website (using widget) and Mobile Apps.
Therefore, by building conditional algorithms and logic on the realtime odour data, environmental automation is possible.
Using real-time odour and meteorological data, Environmental.Ai can also perform odour impact assessment using dispersion modeling.
Odour Monitoring Equipments
Odosense has three variants available are Odosense Lite, Odosense Smart, and Odosense Pro. These product variants target different applications and use-cases.
