Problem
Kakinada being part of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and a proposed Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR), has seen a gradual increase in the merger of surrounding villages.
The increased urbanization and development have put more vehicles on the road, lack of proper sanitation drive and inefficient data on environmental conditions. With sufficient environmental data, authorities can take policy changes to build a sustainable smart city.
Being a part of the Smart Cities mission, Kakinada Municipal authorities wanted a City that has a smart infrastructure to uphold and drive better urban & industrial growth planning, efficient transportation, and data-driven city expansion.
Offered Solution
To address the environmental condition of the Kakinada city and aware the citizens about it, Kakinada Smart City Corporation set out to build the infrastructure to support smart pole equipped with Environmental Sensors. Oizom deployed Polludrone, a customized environment monitoring solution for three critical parameters – Air Quality, Noise and Disaster. A blueprint for the Network of the Smart Sensors was devised. Data from Polludrone is communicated using Kerlink LoRaWAN gateways for low power and long-range data communication. Oizom designed an architecture to send the environmental data in the CCC (Command and Control Centre) directly.
Impact
The authorities are now aware of the environmental scenario of the city and can take data-driven actions. Public display boards allow the authorities to create awareness amongst the citizens about the air quality levels. The solution can suggest actions for minimizing exposure from heavy pollutions. Furthermore, flood and rainfall sensors installed enable the city to send alerts in case of heavy rains.
