Area source
Definition
An area source of emission” is a term used in the context of environmental pollution and air quality management to describe a broad or diffuse source of contaminants that emit pollutants over a relatively large geographic area. Unlike point sources, which release pollutants from specific, well-defined locations such as industrial stacks or vents, area sources are characterized by the dispersion of emissions over a more extensive, less concentrated area. Area sources are a significant consideration in air quality management and environmental protection, as they can collectively contribute to air pollution and pose challenges in achieving and maintaining clean and healthy air in urban and rural areas.
