Famous for its textile industry, Davanagere faces an increase in dust pollution due to improper roads, especially in commercial areas, and improper footpaths. To mitigate pollution, Oizom installed Polludrone for monitoring air pollution from vehicular emission and at roadsides at Davangere Smart city.

The Challenge

Davanagere Smart City is Karnataka’s Manchester, known for its cotton mills. The town is an important trading centre in Karnataka, where various crops from other districts of Karnataka come for further distribution. Over the period, pollution levels in the air have increased with urbanization expanded in Davanagere. The primary reason for its dust pollution is poor road quality and improper footpaths. With urbanization, the number of vehicles has also increased on the roads. Increased traffic has further degraded the road quality, elevating the dust levels in the environment. The rise in atmospheric dust has severely threatened people’s health as they frequently inhale Particulate Matter (PM). A high level of particulates in the atmosphere could pose a chronic breathing ailment, deteriorating their lungs. Planning a mitigation strategy for the rising pollution is challenging without proper air monitoring. The authorities needed a solution to this menace to reduce pollution and provide better living conditions to citizens.

The Solution

Looking at the increasing dust in the air and the poisonous gas releases, Oizom offered its ambient air pollution monitoring device, Polludrone, to Davanagere. These sensor-based devices are installed across the city to monitor dust and vehicular emissions in significant regions. Polludrone devices monitor environmental parameters in real-time and the data collected in real-time paints an accurate picture. The data can be visualized in VMDs (Visual Messaging Displays) so that everyday people can track their city’s pollution rate and take preventive actions in their daily routine. Authorities remotely access the air quality data collected on the Envizom air monitoring platform. The data analysis offered by the platform provides insight into the pollutants in the air and makes relevant changes in the system.

The Result

The nexus of air monitoring devices – Polludrone helps collect consolidated dust pollution data from the city to represent accurate data. Davanagere smart city plans to offer pollution-free routes and suggestive actions for its citizens, using real-time air quality data.
