Overview
High levels of PM10 and PM2.5 are rapidly degrading the air quality of Agra city as well as one of the wonders of the world – Taj Mahal. The increasing pollutant level is mainly due to increased industrial activities and open crop burning. Oizom helped in monitoring the air quality by installing Polludrone all across the city. The authorities can now observe the environmental health of the city in real-time to take appropriate actions to solve the issue.

Problem
Agra city’s vision statement is ‘City of Taj – where history is preserved, environment is pristine, infrastructure is world-class, and opportunity is plenty – a safe place to live, a great place to tour.
Since it was selected as a smart city in 2016, substantial financial aid has been provided to restore Agra’s beauty. As one of the seven wonders of the world – Taj Mahal, is in Agra, it attracts ~8 million tourists every year. The pollution level in Agra has steeped so high that it has started impacting the preserved monument and health of the tourists and the residents. Several industrial activities and open crop burning have contributed to very high levels of PM10 in the atmosphere. Thus, it became crucial to implement some pollution controlling mechanism to combat the issue.
Offered Solution
Oizom offered helping hands to Agra Smart City to let the authorities understand the city’s atmosphere. Oizom deployed Polludrone across the city to monitor ambient air quality. Total 39 devices have been installed, out of which 5 devices are dedicated to monitoring the environment surrounding the Taj Mahal. Polludrone assesses all the critical pollutants present in the air – PM2.5, PM10, CO2, CO, SO2, NO, NO2, and O3, along with the weather parameters – Noise, Light, UV Radiation, Temperature, Humidity, and Rainfall, to present the complete scenario. Polludrone’s smart IoT technology is able to identify the major source of pollution.
Oizom Terminal is set up for the authorities by integrating it with the city’s Command and Control Centre. Real-time pollution data can be observed here, which can assist in mitigating the root cause and create awareness among local people and tourists about the current environmental health.
Impact
Installing Polludrone throughout the city gave open access to the environmental data to the authorities. The solution located the source of origin through reverse modelling. This helped to take necessary corrective steps against the actions which were deteriorating the air quality of the city. Monitoring the ambient air near Taj Mahal allows the authorities to visualize the air quality in real-time and act accordingly in case of pollution breach.
