An odour unit is a numerical value representing the point at which a panel of assessors detects an odour in a substance. It is determined by presenting the substance in decreasing dilution (increasing concentration) until the panel can detect the odour, which is known as the detection threshold (DT). In this context, 1 Odour Unit is the minimal concentration at which the odour becomes perceptible. Odour units are used to quantify and describe the strength or intensity of odours.
